Yesterday the residents of Maduganari and Borno state woke up to a shocking demolition of their church building, as at this time, no one could state clearly the reason for the demolition as the said church properly acquired the land and had the C of O as required by law. The Borno Geographical Information Service (BOGIS) went all of a sudden with a bulldozer and started demolishing the church guarded by the Civilian JTF; and it is interesting to note that the Said, BOGIS is directly under the Governor Professor Babagana Zulum.
When I heard that he ordered an investigation into the matter, I couldn’t help it but laugh. I laughed because there was no way an agency is under the governor and they will go out and perpetrate such grievous crime unless if the governor himself is aware. If he is not aware then who ordered the demolition of the church? And what was the reason? This act is very shameful and disgraceful!
Few question I want to ask. Has any notice been given prior to the demolition and the reason for that? If there was no sinister motive, where did the CJTF seized mobile phones of the members of the church who were recording the event? And if the governor is sincerely ignorant of this or let’s say he is not aware of it, Has anyone being sanctioned? These and many more questions ought to be answered for the governor to prove his innocence over the matter.
I had great respect for Babagana Zulum but you see on this one, I say has goofed! I even thought he is different ashe ma ko wace gauta ja ce. (They are all birds of a feather). Zulum has proven to be a hypocritical bigot by that action of demolishing the church, but someone that has his ears should take this message to him and that is, “The Church cannot be humiliated nor stopped” And the blood of that young man that was spilled innocently will be a canon fodder for the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to thrive in Borno State.
This is nothing but a case of Two fronts of Jihad. While Boko haram is doing it’s own on the other hand, the government is doing its’ own too on the other hand. But what have they achieved so far? Nothing! Churches continue to spring up, the Christian faith is being strengthened and nothing, absolutely nothing can stop it, not even demolition.
Records has shown that, this is the fourth church demolished since Zulum assumed responsibility as the governor of Borno State and for the records, both him and other bigots like him should know that the church doesn’t go to government to beg for money to build churches nor its schools, and the church is actually an asset in the society because it gives back to the society and helps in the growth of the economy, and the governor should cut down on his hypocrisy and own up to his responsibility. Suffice it to say that Borno State is leveraging on the church so far. Someone may ask how? Let me break it to you.
The church buys its lands, makes all the necessary payments and the money goes round. The church organizes programmes almost on a daily basis, print flyers, posters, banners and make adverts either on tv, radio or any other platform, all these involves money, money is going round and helping the economy: In fact, in most cases where there are very big programmes, business men and women go to those places and sell their wares both Muslims and Christians and because of this, money goes round and helps the economy of the state, yet this is the same institution you want to harass, humiliate and try to subjugate? No way!
Zulum should know that before he came, there were churches in Maiduguri and even after him there will still be churches, no he can’t stop it. He should rather face his governance and leave the church alone. On a final note, somebody should give Zulum this verse to read.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (NKJV)
That church demolition is the most callous, insensitive and most unwise thing to do because in place of that one church, ten will spring up. The church cannot be cowed, can’t be stopped. It is a moving train.
